9 CABIN FEVER RELIEVERS
Aug 30th 2019
This winter has been a doozy… Cold, icy, snowy and for some, just plain old boring! Are you suffering from Cabin Fever? Are you sick and tired of your computer screen, the boob tube and each other? Look no further! Here is some inspiration from my daughters to get the gang off the couch and geared up for some fun.
Over the years, my girls have come up with some pretty sweet ways to pass the time on a snowday. #proudmama.
I’ll share some of my “faves”:
1. Create a Summer Bucket List
2. Kid Spa
Download some relaxation music, scour the house for lotions and potions, cut a few cucumbers, heat up some tea bags and you have all you need to start your very own spa. Take it to another level and make a brochure and an appointment book. My girls did this on a rainy day last summer. They actually booked appointments that included facials, manicures and foot rubs. They even charged a fee for their services! I have to say, it was very close to the real thing! My husband fell asleep during his “treatment”. My appointment included “hot rocks” that I later found out came from my neighbor’s garden… ooops! This was a wonderful way to pass the time when the girls were stuck inside and pretty lucrative for our little ladies! #indoorfun
3. Transform your Dining Room into a Fancy Restaurant.
Get out the fancy china or use paper plates. The kids can be the chefs, servers and of course cleaner-uppers! Homemade menus and dinner music add to the ambiance and create the feeling of a real restaurant. Don’t forget to make reservations!
4. Change your View
This is my daughter Maggie’s stroke of genius. She was sick of looking outside at the leafless trees and ice and snow. She took matters into her own hands and changed the view of her bedroom window. She painted a picture, but if you are not an artist, find a poster of a favorite scene and put it in your window. You’ll be surprised how it cheers you up and changes the whole mood of the room! #cleverkid
5. Make a movie
Grab an iphone and download the ap called iMovie. My girls spent hours producing a music video and I was so impressed! I wish I could share the video (they won’t let me!) But trust me, tons of fun, and the results were fabulous! Pick a favorite song and make a goofy video. Fun for all ages!
6. Make Tie-Dye Cupcakes.
Use a box cake recipe and divide it into a few different bowls. Add some food coloring to each bowl and layer the different colored batter in a cupcake wrapper. Voila! Tie-Dyed cupcakes. Super fun and easy activity for kids stuck inside. Pssst…let them try to do this without any help!
7. Transform a Room into an Art Studio- Get Painting!
Make your own masterpieces on a blank canvas or try those old school Paint By Numbers. Don’t forget the tunes! We like painting with Taylor Swift!
8. Have a Magic Show
Take advantage of the world wide web and google “magic tricks for kids”. My guys had great success on youtube and were able to learn enough tricks to put on a pretty legitimate magic show. No rabbits or disappearing sisters, but the show was quite a success. You’ll want to video this one! #abracadabra
9. Build a Fort (oldie but a goodie)
I saved the best for last! Round up all the blankets, pillows and couch cushions. If it’s a weekend or school is cancelled due to a snow storm, let the kids sleep in their creation! Read a great book together or tell ghost stories with a flashlight. If you’re planning to sleep there too, you may want to dig out the air mattress!
We’d love to hear from you. What do you do to pass the time when you’re stuck inside? You could always shop for your favorite baby! www.babybehip.com
