What are the names of your kids and how did you choose their names?

Mitchell – chosen because it was my maiden name. With five older brothers, I was the only one that could use the name as a first name and this way I keep my former name around. 6 years old

Lincoln – chosen because we liked the name and wanted a name that starts with L, also happens to be the first letter of the capital city of the state my husband is from (Nebraska). 5 years old in June.

Nolan – no real reason except that we liked it, we then found out that it was a last name on my husband’s side. 3 years old. Also, our names start with the letters J, K, L, M, N, though out of order. My oldest son is named Mitchell. This is actually just for practical purposes because I use our first initial on everything from calendaring to notes to labeling belongings.

The best piece of advice you have ever received:

Surrender to the chaos! I was told this by the nurse leading a breastfeeding support group for new moms with babies 0-8 weeks. I attended when I had my first child because it was offered by the hospital. It still holds true today.

What is some good parenting advice or tips you would give to new moms?

When you are adapting to life with a new baby don’t set yourself up for failure. I am a “list” person. During the first 12 weeks I made one list per day on a three inch post-it note. If it couldn’t fit on the list, then it didn’t get completed. If I didn’t complete it that day I started a new list over and added the remaining items. Usually there were only 3-5 things on it at a time.

If you had one free day all to yourself, what would you do?

Like this will ever happen! I’d do a little shopping, get a massage, go to a movie, and eat out with friends.

What is your favorite way to spend time with your kids and family?

Our motto is to try anything once. We’ve taken the kids to parks, shows like Dragon Live or Disney On Ice, the Maryland Zoo, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor or the Urban Pirates cruise, train rides to DC, etc.

Which Baby Be Hip product is your favorite to send as a gift?

Hands down the personalized burp cloths. I just love giving these as gifts. The turnaround time is so fast. Usually it is the first personalized gift the new parents receive and I love that.

What great advice and we loved learning more about you, Kimberly! Thanks for being this week’s featured customer!
