KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
Aug 30th 2019
I woke up this Saturday and checked my email only to be delighted to learn that all soccer fields were closed due to the rain storm and high winds. Wahooooooooo! It felt like Christmas morning! My husband and I let the kids sleep in and made a nice pancake breakfast and enjoyed a slow morning with no plans, no place to be, no “hurry up and get your cleats!”, “Did you fill your water bottle?”, “Get in the car, we are running late!” None of that! We actually enjoyed family time, played the new Taylor Swift album and basked in our FREE Saturday morning. I can’t remember the last time we had such a thing! My husband suggested we hop in the car and go to the Franklin Institute… “NO Way!” I nearly jumped down his throat… “We are going nowhere today! Let’s take advantage of the fact that we don’t have to be anywhere and stay HOME!” I’m turning my taxi cab light OFF!” So that’s what we did… and the kids came up with a creative way to have some family fun… A cook off!
I know what you’re thinking… kids in the kitchen… too messy, too dangerous, not worth it. All of this ran through my head as well, but I gave in and
Allowed them to have at it in the kitchen and the results were amazing, fabulous, and tasty! I did make them solemnly swear they would clean up their mess, which they did….not as well as I would have liked, but they gave it their best shot. So this is what they did…team 1: Bacon and Cheese soup with a side salad of mixed spinach, diced apples, blueberries and balsamic dressing. Very impressive. Team 2: Chocolate cake with a twist. They followed the recipe of the chocolate cake on the back of the coco powder box and added their Halloween candy! Mostly Reeses, a dear friend of mine! Ok… so presentation…not so hot. I don’t think they let it bake for long enough… but taste? well, Sir Reeses may have helped their cause!
So…. stuffed and happy, on to the next activities… Flyers, Notre Dame and a family Chess tournament. What a great day! I think I officially despise travel soccer!
