NURSERY TREND ALERT: GOODBYE PINK, HELLO BROWN
Aug 24th 2019
These days, there seems to be a shift in the way nurseries are decorated – no longer are these rooms covered in the traditional hues of pinks, blues, and yellows with a stars-and-moon motif, as the trend is moving in a bit of an unconventional direction. Gone are nurseries decked out in pink for a girl and blue for a boy, but instead we’re seeing lot of chocolate browns and deep oranges for both boys and girls!
Bold colors such as yellows and grays are becoming a popular gender neutral combo, while trendier color schemes such as pink and turquoise as well as purple and pink combinations are starting to make appearances. One Baby Be Hip customer, Martine Wolcott Frey, shared with us how she decorated her nursery – with antique gold and cream colors, and hung paintings her great grandfather did of her mother’s baby toys as well as a portrait of her mom as a baby, which gives the whole room a unique and vintage feel.
As far as themes go, whether it’s a character or a motif, Winnie the Pooh and the gang have said their goodbyes and there’s a new crowd in town – funky owls and birds, trees, and the ever-popular chevron zig-zag pattern.
Old favorites like jungle animals, butterflies, and polka dots still remain, they’re just getting a bit of an upgrade. For Baby Be Hip customer Beth FitzGerald Allen, she put a twist on the traditional – she painted a Noah’s Ark mural on the nursery wall, which she used for the decor all three of her sons, incorporating bright colors like blues, greens, and a rainbow.
So, tell us – how did you decorate your nursery, and what do you think of these trends? Could brown really be the new pink?
